Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Windham, New Hampshire today, his first campaign rally since facing a third criminal indictment last week. Trump continues to lead in the polls among Republicans, maintaining a healthy lead over Governor Ron Desantis. During the rally, Trump criticized President Biden's relationship with China and defended himself against the recent charges.

Dr. Lauren Wright, a lecturer in politics and public affairs at Princeton University, commented on Trump's speech, noting that it followed the typical structure of his rally speeches. She mentioned that Trump's strategy has remained unchanged despite recent events and that his poll numbers have remained stable. Dr. Wright also discussed how public perception may differ from what Trump is saying.

Regarding the upcoming 2024 election, Dr. Wright mentioned that it is still too early for the general electorate to pay close attention to these events. However, primary voters and hardcore supporters are closely following the candidates' messages. She noted that Desantis has a lot of ground to make up if he wants to catch up to Trump.

Dr. Wright also discussed DeSantis' recent decision to replace his campaign manager. She explained that even though DeSantis was once seen as a rising star in the Republican Party, he has struggled to close the gap with Trump due to Trump's celebrity status and showmanship.

In conclusion, Dr. Wright emphasized that it is challenging for other candidates to distinguish themselves from Trump when he is on the stage. She noted that current numbers indicate Trump may have a hard time winning a national election
