One such soldier, Andriana, shares her story of resilience and determination.
Andriana's Journey
Andriana is a well-known member of the Ukrainian armed forces. Her unit encountered a landmine last December, and Russian media falsely reported her death in graphic detail, even going as far as calling her a Ukrainian Nazi. However, Andriana is alive and not surprised by the Russian propaganda. She understands that they are professionals in manipulating information and remains committed to protecting her country.
From Volunteer to Official Army
Like many other Ukrainians, Andriana joined a volunteer battalion when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. She spent a year with the Idol Battalion before it was incorporated into the official army. Despite not having formal military training, Andriana has shown strong combat skills, including shooting.
The Impact on Soldiers
In this hospital, where Andriana is currently receiving treatment, there are concerns about the costs of rehabilitation, which can amount to thousands of dollars per month for each soldier. However, Andriana's main concern is the impact on her family. She hasn't been able to hold her son for seven months, and he recently expressed longing for the time when they were a happy family. Andriana tries to reassure him that they still love each other, but their normal family life is currently on hold.
Continuing the Fight
Despite the challenges and sacrifices, Andriana is preparing to return to the front line. The price she has already paid is too high to give up. She remains determined to protect her country and is an inspiration to others.
